An Australian man has had an office in a case of age discrimination against a historic company car rental Ireland, having extra for being over the age of 70. Anthony White has tried to rent a car in Ireland 2 years ago when he was in his seventies and in the beginning was 25 € calculated. He also said he would not be able to rent a car for their next visit as they would be on 75th White took his case to the Equality Tribunal in Ireland, which ruled in his favor, that the policy constituted discrimination on grounds of age. Car Rental Ireland Ltd has changed the rule and says that now the decision is made case by case basis, with estimates of the age, health, driving record and insurance coverage. An additional major driver is fairly common with car rentals – you can read in a previous blog have about it (too old to drive a car?) Some providers charge when the driver of a certain age, others have an age limit for renters and some additional documents (such as rental car to do in Ireland). The surcharge is applied to the higher insurance premiums than older drivers are represented as by a higher risk. Is it the case that we see the end of the main driver surcharges? Is it age discrimination to the detriment of drivers over because as a higher risk? In this case, it certainly is discrimination based on age, anyone under 25 years free of charge a fee for young drivers, as they are at a higher risk insurance and more likely to be considered an accident? In the case of Mr. White, he has 50 years driving and it felt was unfair coverage of all older drivers. I disagree and think that the new company policies are right – it depends on the circumstances of the case and not their age. Car rental companies have to follow this example, other? We will wait and see. last thought – an article I found about this, titled “Old Man wins age discrimination suit against the company Irish Car Rental” – “Old Man”? Surely this is age discrimination itself?
