As a general rule, festivities at holiday time, provide for a joyous season. Although it can be a particularly difficult time for many seniors, who may be remembering those dear to them that are no longer here to be with them to celebrate. Many seniors also exhibit behaviors of depression, and have increased anxiety and agitation due to feeling overwhelmed. Holiday stress can also increase their physical and mental issues to further complicate the season. Here are some tips to help your elderly loved one at holiday time:

1. Encourage remembrances of wonderful memories: Old photos, family movies and old-time music through photos, family videos and music from yesteryear. Stimulate memories to encourage our elders to share their remembrances.

2. Plan ahead. To encourage participation for the senior, plan ahead so that you have someone rested to have the stamina to enjoy the planned activities, party, etc.

3. Create a senior friendly environment: If you plan on taking your loved one out to celebrate at another person’s home, then be aware that this environment needs to be a safe one for the senior. For instance, remove accent rugs that could lead to a fall.

4. Be a good listener, take clues from them. Comment as appropriately as you can, as this can be a sensitive time.

5. Create new traditions. We all need something to look forward to. As our elders age, they may have lost old-time friends and dear family.
Family may be scattered, not able to come home at holiday time.

6. Encourage them to give. Increase their self worth by giving of themselves or providing gifts for others. Sharing their memories or cherished keepsakes with people close to them may provide a true joy.

7. Be thoughtful and include the senior. They are most likely lonely, which can lead to depression and resentment. They have many years of suggestions they will gladly pass on for others. Involve a senior center, religious place of worship or other senior venue to “reach out and touch another someone, someone who may not have family of their own”.

8. Find new modes of entertainment to stay active minded. Activities for the holiday season are important. Keep your senior cognitively busy. Beat the “Holiday blues” and “Depression.

9. Maintain a happy environment. Maintain brightness in these special festive days, despite the sense of loss they may have of loved ones who are no longer here to partake of the holiday with them.

10. Monitor medications and alcohol. Be aware of their alcohol intake during the holidays at gatherings or in the privacy of their own home. You don’t want the alcohol to interfere with medications.

Give the gift a senior most wants! Time, companionship and visits from their friends and loved ones will be their most treasured gift. Seniors will typically relish the seasonal gatherings. This is the time to have patience, have compassion, and provide a safe and wonderful new memory, for them to reflect back on throughout the coming year.

Looking forward to the holidays as a single Christian? Learning how to survive and thrive during the holiday season is an important thing for singles to learn. Since holidays are marketed for families, singles who are alone are often made to feel like outsiders crashing a party. Talk about the holiday blues! How Singles Prepare for the Holidays

As Christian single women and men dreading yet another holiday season alone, you’re probably struggling or thinking about:

* Where you’re going to spend the holidays to avoid loneliness

* How unfair it is that another Christmas is coming, and you’re still single

* What you’re gonna tell or do to those relatives who ask you again why you’re not yet married.

Holiday Do’s and Don’ts for Singles

As you reflect upon how to approach the holidays this season, it’s important to celebrate in a way you feel comfortable as a single person. As you begin to see all the commercialism, decorations and hype, let the following holiday do’s and dont’s guide you:

Holiday Do’s for Singles

Focus on the birth of our dear Lord and Saviour, Jesus, as the focal point of your holiday. Not to employ an overused cliche, but He is, after all, the Reason for the season.

Do remember that as a single you have the same need and right to enjoy this holiday season as any other couple or family does. So if you want to decorate your home or apartment, do it up good! How you choose to spend the holidays is your personal choice, not that of those around you. Before being cajoled by friends and family members to attend this event or that party, ask yourself if this is really what you want to do. Will it make you feel more lonely and depressed? Will it bring others AND you some measure of joy?

As a single Christian, set level expectations for the holidays. Have fun in the way you see fit, but don’t allow the world to pressure you into unrealistic expectations of what the holiday time should bring. That way, if things don’t go that way, there will be less disappointment and hurt.

Jesus said “it’s more blessed to give than to receive.” So, make this Christmas a time of service to others instead of focusing on your own needs and wants as a single person. Doing things such as feeding the poor or visiting the sick will not only help you put the holidays into their proper perspective, it will cause your spirits to soar! We guarantee it.

If you have not already done so, find a Christian singles group or church in your area where you can find and give support to other singles during the holidays. If you’re not part of any group, why not throw a holiday bash for other single friends you know?

Make sure to count every blessing the Lord has granted to you during the past year.

Holiday Don’ts for Singles

Avoid using too much alcohol (Ephesians 5:18) to cope with holiday stress because this tends to make one depressed.

As singles, we tend to overbook ourselves to the point of exhaustion. Make sure you don’t do this this holiday season, but give yourself plenty of down time to relax and rest. Fatique can lead to negative thought patterns.

Don’t spend all your holiday time with family members and other couples, but split the time to be with your single friends as well. This will help you keep a more positive perspective while enjoying everybody’s company

Overall, however you choose to celebrate the Christmas or New Year Holidays, remember to be safe, trust in God’s promises for your future (Jeremiah 29:11) and have fun! Happy Holidays!

Are you dreading the approaching holidays? Fearful of being alone or without your loved one? Or have you been thinking about the possibility of receiving a greetings card from someone who does not know your loved one has died?

Most experts agree that anticipation of a holiday and what is expected is almost always worse than actually experiencing the day. There are many unrealistic expectations at holiday time.

In any event, here are 10 things you can do, that have been used by others through the years, which will help you deal with your grief and reduce unnecessary suffering.

1. Structure your day. Plan. Plan. Plan. Make a schedule of what you will do each hour of the day and be committed to following it. Decide before hand what you can and cannot do on that day. Make a “to do” list and a “not to do” list. Talk about both with your family members. You do not have to follow what was done on previous holidays.

2. Have a back-up plan. If things go wrong and you are unable to follow the schedule you had prepared at a given time during the day, substitute an alternative activity. Let’s say you cannot stay at dinner as long as you had originally planned. Then be sure you have someone and something else to do (another place to go) so you can remove yourself from the highly stressful situation.

3. Simplify. You do not have to do all the work of sending cards, buying presents, and decorating if it does not feel right for you. It is likely you won’t have the energy to begin with. Cancel this part of the holiday. Or shorten your list or decide not to send cards. Send money or shop through the internet. Instead of a Christmas tree, simply decorate with pine boughs or small ornaments.

4. Decide on a way to symbolize the presence of your loved one. It could be by lighting a candle, placing his/her picture in a special place, making his/her favorite dessert, telling a favorite story, or setting a place at table. It is okay to reminisce about past holidays with him or her. Celebrate his/her life and what has enriched yours by your relationship with the beloved.

5. Buy a gift for yourself (from your loved one) and another for your loved one. Then decide to give the gift for your loved one to someone who would benefit from it. Make helping others one of your New Year resolutions to honor his/her memory. Focus on this thought throughout the holiday season.

6. Allow yourself to express your feelings as they arise. Don’t resist. Let grief move through you in a natural way. It’s okay to cry and feel sad. Crying is coping. If you feel especially sad, call someone you trust to talk to. Picking the right person and asking if you can call them “just in case,” is part of your back-up plan. Ask for assistance. Don’t expect friends to automatically know what you need.

7. Take time just for yourself to do something that is pleasing to you—and don’t feel guilty about doing so. Do this every day of the season. Eat a special food. Get a massage. Take a bubble bath. Visit a nearby park or beautiful scenery. But remember, don’t isolate yourself. You need your own time, but don’t over do it.

8. Be sure to exercise. This is a commonly overlooked but extremely profitable way to change feelings and emotion. Walk, ride a bicycle or engage in your usual exercise pattern. We all need physical outlets for the emotional stressors of the day. Accept the fact that the absence of your loved one on a special day is bound to cause pain. But you can use exercise as a counterbalance.

9. Deal with your feelings by periodically asking yourself where you are in your inner life at the moment. Are you overwhelmed, fearful, angry, and lonely or are you experiencing a moment of joy. Once you have identified your emotional state, follow up with examining options for dealing with your state of mind. Do you need to be with someone or go somewhere or say something to yourself? Your encouraging self-talk can be important here.

10. Combine these two survival skills when you start to feel you are going in a downward spiral: take action and refocus your attention. These two critical skills are essential for all of us for the rest of our lives. When you make your holiday plan, list a number of activities you can do when you need to change the sadness and prevent slipping into a depressive state.

Decide on the immediate action you can take to combat too much distress: get up and do something, walk around the house, pray, repeat a mantra, “Google” the word grief. Find a way to change your thought pattern. It will work for you, if you consistently go for it.

You can get through this holiday season, or any day that you feel is a special day involving your loved one. Three things will guarantee your success: make the commitment (“I will get through this”), be determined (“If I fall down, I will get back up”), and persist over time (remember it’s like an endurance race). There is no right or wrong way to deal with the holidays. There is only your way.

The holiday season is almost upon us with people wondering where to go to spend that hard earned money they have been saving all year for this occasion.Thoughts of holidays and where to go can occupy you happily for many an hour as you try to decide on your destination.

Cost can play a big part in your decision, if you are on a low budget then distance can be a factor, although with all the low cost flights these days its not as hard as it used to be. Hotels come in all price ranges from one star to five stars and then you can decide on bed and breakfast, half board or full board.

All inclusive holidays are great if you have children as they can wallow in ice cream and cold drinks if they want to. They may seem expensive but once there you don’t have to spend a penny so weigh up what your usual holiday would cost and the amount of spending money needed and compare costs.

Many people prefer to cater for themselves so holiday flats are a big favourite; you have a choice of going out for your meals or eating in.

Most holiday resorts, especially abroad always have markets where you can buy the finest home grown vegetables and salads, also delicious fruits so it is easy to have a few meals in your flat.

Many people yearn for a holiday destination that is different to the usual run of the mill; they search all the holiday brochures and the online holiday companies.

Here is one holiday destination that I have never heard mention in the brochures or online, we spent two holidays here and it was fantastic.

Swaziland is a small country that borders South Africa. It is many years since we visited Swaziland but I have never forgotten it.

You cross the border and instantly it is like being in another world, it was mud roads and along the roads were the little straw huts where the natives lived. As we passed they all came out calling and waving, they are a very friendly people.

The first time we went camping and stayed in a wonderful place it was called Paradise Park. Banana and avocado trees grew all around it was fantastic.

I am very fair skinned so normally I just go red in the sun but that holiday I was completely brown when we went home.

I am sure there must be information online about Swaziland I have not looked, but if you want a holiday with a difference there it is. I am assuming of course that it hasn’t changed too much since we went.

Camping can be a cheap alternative for a holiday if your budget is really low, there is usually a camping shop in your nearest town where you rent all the equipment you need including the tents. The kids will love it as it like an adventure to them, but you just have to pray that you have good weather.

A caravan holiday used to be a cheap option, but prices have risen drastically especially during the school holidays.

In the school holiday times families are charged almost treble what it cost at any other time no matter where they intend to holiday, it can be so cruel for those who can’t afford to pay these prices.

House swapping could be the answer, you just swap house with someone else for a week or fortnight. Your house doesn’t have to be palace just as long as it is clean and tidy with all the mod cons.

If you do year after year, the holiday stress? Do you think if you are a victim in all this? Do you think you’re the only person in your household, which will contribute to the success of the party? Let me share with you some ideas to make the holidays manageable. I used to literally nuts during the holidays. I was a man who thought his contribution to the festival was married to are simply tired of eating and then watching TV in the living room while I cleaned the kitchen. I also had two son, who could only ornaments of the season I vacances.Ce that hurt your feelings might suggest is, but it has a good chance to significantly reduce the stress of the holidays. When you finish this article, you need to decide what most important to you — to be perfect or just find some of your mental health. When all is said and done, you can still continue as you have always done. I am only advice remplacement.Quelle is your typical routine? Of course, for me there was the sending of Christmas cards at least 100 Often it was the only way I could contact with people I souciait.Puis stay there was the purchase of gifts. I married into a family where I am now has inherited by 20 nieces and nephews and the family insisted that all children receive a gift from all the uncles and aunts, until they reach the age of 25! Whatever I said, it would not be deflected from their position. Christmas shopping for me, was a corvée.Puis after the presents have been bought, there were many hours of wrapping paper that was necessary. And what about putting up the Christmas tree and decorate the rest of the house? Remember that cleaning should be done to my house presentable for visitors unannounced vacation. There were also many varieties of cooking more cookies and preparation of a food should I bring to a variety of places where we were invited to the Christmas party after the party. In addition, the stress of the inevitable weight gain during the holidays and it is no wonder I was moody and irritable.Une time I started to practice Living Inside Out ™, I had the question of Mental Health in rituals in which I undertook. The first question I was asked: “How many things that I, because I think I do, and how many are to do for my pleasure and delight of my family?” I remember especially at Christmas, when I felt particularly insisted, I told my children that I have to either help with the preparations for holiday or do I cut things from the holiday routine. They made it clear that it does not really help reduce the number of things I put on myself, but they were more than willing to forego many holiday traditions. In fact, what she told me that we do not need a tree. All they looked after and they do not even need to wrap! It was eye opening for me. Now it is clear that nothing about the gifts was a little, do what I did not want something that was necessary for the successful celebration for my enfants.Ensuite had to judge me, which is necessary for me. I decided I wanted to send Christmas cards to stay in touch with friends and family, and I wanted to wrap gifts for my children, that I, the expressions of surprise and joy on their faces that they can appreciate their cadeaux.C opened, Christmas is above all I discovered the joy in receiving New Year cards. Yes. I kept myself under pressure to get the cards before Christmas. Finally, the goal was to keep in touch with people. It proved to be much better to send my card in January. Of you were from the rest, I do not have a tree. My children do not really care whether we or not. Neither do I. Pressure stress.J big “have the idea that everyone should be at home on vacation cooperation given. In search of support from family members is not the only thing I was carried to the people I loved most. Threshing holiday to alienate together was not important to them. If he would like to provide more help for the j “I discovered demandé.Dans shopping for nephews and nieces, I put the value of gift cards. Kids love them because they can choose what they want and they protect against such unwanted, unnoticed presents an aunt or uncle who do not really know them well enough to give a gift they vraiment.Une other suggestions appreciated, especially if you have older children, buy, do not take the money you would normally spend on gifts and to find a family to buy more as gifts for a different family in your new ritual Noël.En regarding cookies must, I did make 27 different varieties and only chocolate chip cookies — a family favorite. They were always a hit, and no one really liked the others anyway! And such as weight gain, there are two possible solutions. Approach the holidays with Reckless Abandon. Know that you speak and you gain weight in January. The other option is to take control of your diet. Eat smaller portions and taste, but swallows, a snacks during the holidays.

This holiday season again … Then you are good or bad? Sometimes feels the pressure of a severe snow cold region over you. Other times may be the holidays a time of joy and celebration. So what is the difference for you and for others this year? Many people turn into Scrooge and November approach saves the change back-to-School events at Christmas, before you blink an eye. “I am working woman, for heaven’s sake, could, among you.” Who has time for the holidays? “And if one more person asks:” Are you done shopping yet? “You’ll go crazy, if you can not wait, until everything is finished, you are not alone. I personally think that is most biggest disadvantage of all the clutter comes with this time of year. Not only the physical space, but the mental, emotional and time and space. The parties, family gatherings, gift-expropriation is pressure from outside the gift of the year, walking around and standing in long lines to get things that nobody really wants, baking holiday cookies … to buy all that you already have in your life! Sometimes it seems that that it will never end, how can we overcome and meaningful these troubled times for the holiday season, nice time? Just follow these survival techniques, and better organize and manage your holiday time more wisely. You can be a happy girl, instead of a Grinch! Holiday Survival Techniques first IGNORE mercantilism has. The apartment market has been beyond belief. you may find yourself less inclined to participate in all the hype, if you ignore it. 2 ask and give “CONSUMABLE” Gift Card. This can also items such as dinner vouchers, tickets, a massage, manicure, los concert tickets or movie. This reduces the clutter in your life and gives you all enjoy entertainment. 3rd Remembrance Service. holidays were not invented to try all the crazy, out not acquire each other’s ability to drive gifts. Take time to think about what this means for you, 4. PLAN celebrations. Whatever you do to celebrate holidays, there are only 24 hours in a day . limit yourself to only a few parts (Lodging and participation) in order to avoid the use. How do you plan, do the things you want to do that schedule and bring you joy. 5 planning to decorate your time! Set you do not on your task list. In fact, to embellish a time and involve the whole family, so it’s fun. Put some holiday music and drink libations of holidays, if necessary! sixth Use containers specifically for the holidays designed. They come in a variety of shapes, sizes and colors that make their identification easy and logical (color coded for easy identification, container shaped tube that will easily accommodate rolls wrapping paper, etc..) N Do not forget label all containers. This makes storage and recovery for next year, a simple effort, rather than laboriously organized. To summarize, plan, manage your time and do things that bring you joy. This way, you have a much better Time and peaceful year. During this season, a single one. Say goodbye to say hello to one and of Scrooge relaxing and enjoyable celebration. ———-

Hooray! Holiday season is. After all the big and the small things that you wanted to do with your child. Instead of thinking that it too hot outside or irritate your child’s constant complaints of boredom or demand more time to put on TV, go on holiday joy, learning and experiencing wonderful moments.Give him the opportunity to acquire life skills: Academic Press does not leave much room for children’s skills such as leadership, self-expression, responsibility, problem-solving to develop the assets for a lifetime. Help your child form a group of friends and adopt a play, storytelling sessions take place where each child tells a new story, do not participate in small choir, let them decide the menu of the day.Help your child discover their creativity to color the water to your child. He uses his fingers or a brush and paint their imagination. Help them to make cards with dried flowers, design the invitations birthday, a box of old pencil boxes, etc. The finding of new ideas and look forward over every little contribution. The best incentive would be to implement his ideas, perhaps with some modifications.Make your child a fun-filled holiday: Arrange pool parties with friends, they have to dance to their favorite music, help, sandwiches with scissors in various forms, send them to camps or adventure trekking out to a picnic, zoo , water park, home of the family. While it has all the fun, he will also learn to share, socialize and to respect the feelings of others.Make your child aware of its role in society: Use this free time to understand your child’s responsibility as citizens and as part of society. Give him a piece of garden on and guide them how to grow plants. Bring it to orphanages or homes bar age and a donation or in kind. Show him how he can form a group to make a monthly contribution of this group and a donation.Make your child feel important, parents send their children usually in the hobby class they occupied during the holidays. But the holiday is a time for families is a great time together, not the possible output in the normal routine. In addition, if the parents are directly involved in the activities of their children, he feels to be loved and encouraged. To fulfill your fantasy chalk activities for your child and have fun with him.

But you do. We can help you. Let this be a time of joy and peace. A time to share with friends and share precious moments to laugh with their families. A time to visit with customers and show your appreciation. You can sing these songs with ease and relax for a business above all. Too good to be true. Well, try some of these tips vacation time management and see if they work for you. 1st Plan ahead: Who says you have to buy the holiday meal in the past week. Each time you to the grocery store, pick up additional boxes of cranberry sauce or Jell-O and note on a list. With your business, you may 2008 calendar, day planner refills, customer buying gifts, etc. Keep a list of things you receive the guests. 2nd Gifts: There is magic in the ears of parents who do not know, buy what the family and for us with the customer that we do not know what to buy. They are not only well received but charged $ 5. 00 or more S & H, you pay 41 cents. Better yet, you do not have to worry about everything on the deadline in time for out-state packages. 3rd Organize: It is of crucial importance. You have to consider no time for things. If possible before the holidays, spend a day or two and completely organize your home and office. What to go for a strong feeling in the holiday feeling to things. If this is not possible, take all minutes to spare, you can get up when you talk on the phone or early.

For your holiday film, scissors, tape, a place for them and be sure to return each time. Your holiday catalogs are arriving every day, you will need a place for them. Find a better place now and they always put there. For companies, the New Year right. Clean files and important documents on the distance. Get the bin and with great courage to throw away things that are not important. Be brave! If you have not used in a few months, chances are you will not miss. Do it. Go ahead and while you’re there, set up files for the year 2008. 4th Plan your time: It is a glorious time of year. Church and playing children, office parties, holiday shopping, friends, family, etc., etc., etc. Yes, it is overwhelming, scary can have fun but with the right timing. Write it down. A calendar on the wall with family events is a must. You do not want to miss a thing. Get the haircut, holiday dresses / suits, and the image of the family now. Again, this is not the time to add on any extras. If it until after the first day of the year, let it wait. (Can not forget Oh, and not try to arrange babysitting.) For companies this is a very busy time of year for many. Customers need to complete tasks each year, and maybe you send a lot of work. For seasonal customers, it is even stronger. “Stay focused. Let your mind constantly drifting to upcoming events in the night. Use your daytimer and organize your day with precision. Use e-mail instead of phone whenever possible . Concentrate. You can create it! 5th Delegating tasks: Your time is precious.

Is there someone to do the work for you? Lassen. You will find them to really enjoy and can often help to use the money. Then your virtual assistant is can be very useful. 6th Tasks Breakdown: For those of us in business are many tasks there. You have your gifts, send cards, etc., a certain amount per night. They enjoy more and will not be rushed to complete the task. Consolidate your errands, shop and play. Make every trip. You’ll be amazed how much time you can save by planning ahead. If you think that gosh would be perfect for such purchase. Why wait and have to come back and, worse still need about where you’ve seen, think. 7th Learn to say no: It’s a good business and personal practice of all times, but during the holidays, it is essential. This year, think of you and your family first. What they bring the greatest joy? Do you really need to do? 8th Avoid daily newspapers: We are working from home. We do not have the post office or bank, at lunch or after work. Go to 10:30 clock A. Lord 9th Avoid debt: It’s out of here! No, this is your house not the cleanest. So what! So you have not all the traffic that you complete. Big Deal! What do you think most valuable. If you enjoy this holiday for yourself, it’s so worth it! Do not think the effort to. Plus, as you will be better as a mother and businesswoman. 10th And finally – have fun! Not just one night or several days, but the holiday season together. get too many plans for the main event, the festival itself, but this year the trip there.
